The power of green plants in healing has been recognized throughout history. Many indigenous peoples, and all mammals except modern homo-sapiens, live primarily on grasses and green plants in times of disease. In the past 30 years, a number of green food supplements have become popular. These all have one obvious property in common—chlorophyll, the substance that makes plants appear green. Actually, all plants, even citrus fruits, contain at least some chlorophyll. The greater the amount, the greener the plant.
The fundamental actions of chlorophyll include the ability to cleanse or purify the body, to reduce inflammation and to rejuvenate. The purifying properties of chlorophyll helps remove toxins, drug deposits as well as deactivating many known carcinogens.
Chlorophyll reduces inflammation in conditions ranging from arthritis and sciatica to stomach ulcers and acid reflux, in addition to skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Chlorophyll has also been proven to build blood, renew tissue growth, counteract radiation, improve liver function and promote healthful intestinal flora. The ability of chlorophyll to enrich the blood and treat anemia may be due to the similarity in molecular structure between hemoglobin (red blood cells) and chlorophyll. Their molecules are virtually identical except for their central atom - iron in hemoglobin and magnesium in chlorophyll. Thus chlorophyll is sometimes called “the blood of plants.”
Chlorella
The micro-algae, chlorella, is nature’s richest food source of chlorophyll. Fractured cell chlorella allows for high absorption and digestion of its anti-oxidants, carotenoids, nucleic acids, protein, vitamins and minerals. In Japan, where chlorella is the number one selling dietary supplement, it is commonly recommended in large part because its cell wall has been shown to aid the body in the elimination of heavy metals and other toxins such as pesticides, PCB’s, DDT, Mercury, Cadmium and Lead. Another feature of the cell wall is a substructure that contains complex polysaccharides which stimulate interferon production as well as other anti-tumor and immune enhancing activity.
Chlorella is 60% protein and also contains more nucleic acids than any other food, plant or animal. Nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) in the human body are responsible for cellular growth, repair and renewal. The amount of nucleic acids in the body decreases with age. Insufficient nucleic acids cause premature aging as well as weakened immunity. Nucleic acids are depleted by lack of exercise, stress, pollution and poor diet. Replenishing RNA/DNA is therefore important in every aspect of bodily health and longevity. The RNA/DNA in Chlorella strengthens immunity by boosting the activity of T and B cells which defend the body against viruses and other invading micro-organisms, and macrophages, which destroy cancer and cellular debris in general.
Many individuals also use chlorella for a nutrient factor isolated in the 1950’sand not available in other green foods. It is called “chlorella growth factor” (CGF). CGF makes chlorella especially useful for improving growth patterns in children and the elderly, healing injuries and initiating growth where it has been stunted by disease or degeneration, including Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, sciatica, osteoarthritis and many other nervous system disorders. In addition, studies have shown that chlorella helps lower cholesterol because of its high Omega-3 essential fatty acid content.
Cereal Grasses
Cereal Grasses are another group of high chlorophyll foods. Wheat, barley and oat grass juice extracts are 20% protein, the same as many meats. They also contain more than 90 minerals, and have unique digestive enzymes not available in such high concentrations in any other foods. The hundreds of enzymes they contain help resolve indigestible and toxic substances unfortunately present in many foods today. Also present is an abundance of the anti-oxidant enzyme superoxidase dismutase (SOD) and the special fraction P4D1. Both of these substances slow cellular deterioration and mutation and are therefore useful in the treatment of degenerative diseases and the slowing or reversal of the aging process.
The carbohydrate structure of cereal grasses has special value. It contains large quantities of mucopolysacchirides (MPS). These MPS strengthen all body tissues, especially the connective tissues (tendons, ligaments and cartilage) making them more elastic and resilient. They are also strongly anti-inflammatory and strengthen the heart and guard against deterioration of arteries.
Green foods, especially the cereal grasses are also important in the maintenance of healthy liver function, Liver congestion and stagnation result in conditions ranging from muscular tension and cramping to the inflammations of arthritis, sciatica, and acid reflux as well as blood sugar instability, mood disorders and depression.
Blue Dragon’s Green Dream
The wheat, barley and oat grass used in Green Dream are organically grown. They are grown at over 5,000 feet elevation in the mineral rich soil of an ancient volcanic lake bed. The grasses are irrigated by pure mineral water and harvested at the peak of their nutritional value. Over 100 pounds of the cereal grasses are cleaned, crushed, juiced and dried with a low temperature process within minutes of harvesting to make just one pound of the super concentrated extract powder.
The chlorella and ginger root are also organically grown. Fractured cell technology allows for easy absorption and assimilation of the chlorella. No binders, fillers, or preservatives are ever used in any Blue Dragon products. |
